CRECO, undertook a study to map out the incidences of violence as has been witnessed in the recent past in order to develop a basis for monitoring and carrying out other actions by different actors that are hoped to culminate in building a culture of peace in Kenya. Indeed this study is a critical but first step in the process. The report is referenced to march 31st 2012

Our key findings indicate that we generally have higher incidences of violence in a majority of the counties. The attendant factors for the ratings include ethnic intolerance, border conflicts, political party zoning, competition over land and other resources, proliferation of small arms, weak security and poverty. These factors cannot be treated in isolation, and some are more significant in certain counties than in others Click here to download the report

Constitution and Reform Education Consortium (CRECO) held a press conference sharing on the findings of the TJRC process as it had engaged in the monitoring of the process through its member organisations. The process is coming to a conclusion with the commission having completed hearings in 7 regions, North Eastern, Eastern, Nyanza, Rift valley, Western, Central and Coast region. Thematic hearings were still ongoing in Nairobi and it was therefore imperative that organizations that had been involved in tracking/monitoring/observing and or informing the process come together and share notes. It was important that this would inform further the final report and recommendations by the Commission. The need to inform reparation and other related Policies was key as mandated on the commission by the TJRC Act, 2008, Clause 6(k)(i).

It is on this note therefore that Constitution and Reform Education Consortium, CRECO with support from ACT! (Formerly Pact Kenya) had convened a stakeholders’ platform to among other things:

Share and interrogate key findings on the process by CRECO and other stakeholders who have been involved in this process

Find a common position on the imminent report and recommendations by the Commission to be released by mid 2012 with a view to influencing the report

After the meeting with the stakeholders, CRECO issued a statement that was read to the media click here to download the Press statement.
